Summary

The Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS) was first established by the IOC in 1965 as a cooperation mechanism for countries in the Pacific whose coastal areas are threatened by tsunamis. Through the ICG, Member States have designed and developed the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System and work together to improve and sustain it.

The next ICG/PTWS Steering Committee meeting which will take place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, from 6 to 9 March 2023.

This meeting is crucial for the continuity of the the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System work in the region and for the preparation of the Thirtieth Session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS-XXX), scheduled in September 2023.
