Summary

The IOC UNESCO is organizing an online project kick-off workshop on ‘Strengthening the Resilience of Coastal Communities in the North-Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean Region to the Impact of Tsunamis and Other Sea Level-Related Coastal Hazard on 17th and 20th December 2021. The project is financially supported by the European Union Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO). The workshop is organized with the participation of partner Member States: Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Malta, Morocco, Spain and Turkey, as well as key project partners including:

  • The European Commission's science and knowledge service,
  • Joint Research Centre (JRC) European Commission,
  • Project supporting countries (technical advice), in particular France and Italy.

The ICG/NEAMTWS Steering Committee, Working Groups and Task Teams will also be invited to participate in the kick-off workshop.

Objectives of the Workshop

  1. To launch the IOC EU ECHO NEAMTWS project;
  2. Provide an overview of IOC EU ECHO Project;
  3. Introduce country project partners and technical support countries;
  4. Establish an understanding of the national/local context and needs;
  5. Define an understanding of an implementation plan.
