Summary

In 2005, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Assembly at its 23rd Session decided, by Resolution XXIII-12, to create the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) to be governed by an Intergovernmental Coordination Group (ICG/IOTWMS). 

At its 14th Session, held in Jakarta, Indonesia during 17-19 November 2024, the ICG/IOTWMS decided to organise the 15th Session in Muscat, Oman.

The 15th session of the ICG/IOTWMS is being organised by the IOC-UNESCO Secretariat for the ICG/IOTWMS and hosted by the Sultanate of Oman through its Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The Session will review progress of the IOTWMS workplan and decide on recommendations to enhance tsunami warning and preparedness in the Indian Ocean region.
