Tonga Tsunami Ready Stakeholder Workshop and Tsunami Warning Training

Summary
To strengthen the tsunami early system and the capacity of the Tongan national and local government offices in guiding communities towards preparedness and achieving ‘Tsunami Ready’ recognition, the International Tsunami Information Centre and the IOC are leading two 1-day workshops.
On 15 July 2026, a Tsunami Ready Stakeholder workshop will be held. The workshop will overview of the Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme, share best practices and case studies in assessment, warning and preparedness, and discuss strategies to ensure that all at-risk communities are prepared and resilient to tsunami. On 16 July 2026, a Tsunami Warning Refresher training focusing on tsunami warning operations and the tsunami early warning chain will be held.
The workshops are supported by United States Department of State Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response, and United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), through the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and its International Tsunami Information Centre (a joint partnership between the IOC and NOAA).
