Summary

Phase 3 of the UNESCAP‑funded project, “Strengthening Tsunami Early Warning in the Northwest Indian Ocean through Regional Cooperation,” has been approved by ESCAP. Building on the progress of earlier phases, which strengthened understanding of Makran tsunami hazards and advanced tsunami inundation mapping capabilities, Phase 3 aims to enhance community‑level tsunami preparedness in line with the 12 UNESCO‑IOC Tsunami Ready indicators in India, Iran, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates. The project will be implemented by the IOTWMS Secretariat and IOTIC, with strategic guidance from the Regional Working Group for the Northwest Indian Ocean (RWG‑NWIO).
