The Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS) was first established by the IOC in 1965 as a cooperation mechanism for countries in the Pacific whose coastal areas are threatened by tsunamis. Through the ICG, Member States have designed and developed the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System and work together to improve and sustain it. At its 29th session on 1–2 and 7–8 December 2021, the ICG/PTWS decided to continue the Pacific Island Countries and Territories Working Group on Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (WG-PICT) under the leadership of Ms Esline Garaebiti (Vanautu) as Chair and Mr Mathew Moihoi (Papua New Guinea) as Vice Chair. In this context, the Ninth Meeting of the Pacific Island Countries and Territories Working Group on Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS-WG/PICT-IX) will be hosted by the Government of Fiji on 02-03 February 2023 at the Tanoa International Hotel Conference Center in Nadi, Fiji.  The meeting will follow after the IOC Regional Training on the UNESCO/IOC Tsunami Ready Recognition Programme for Pacific Island Countries and Territories on 30 January - 01 February 2023 at the same venue.
