Summary

Tsunami United 2025 is a youth-focused initiative by UNESCO-IOC's Indian Ocean Tsunami Information Centre (IOTIC), in collaboration with UNDRR, BMKG, U-INSPIRE Indonesia, and Pacifico. It engages high school students from Indian Ocean countries in a series of interactive online sessions, coaching, and campaigns to raise awareness and build resilience against tsunami threats. The theme for 2025 is 'Be Tsunami Ready, Investing Today for a Safer Tomorrow'.

Tsunamis, though infrequent, are among the deadliest natural disasters, causing widespread loss of life and long-term disruption to coastal communities. To reduce future risks, proactive investment in preparedness—through education, early warning systems, evacuation planning, and resilient infrastructure—is essential. Youth play a vital role in this effort, bringing creativity, adaptability, and influence across communities. Building on the success of the 2024 Tsunami United initiative, which engaged over 260 students from 19 Indian Ocean countries, the 2025 edition continues to empower young people to lead conversations, develop innovative solutions, and promote tsunami awareness and resilience through interactive sessions and campaigns.
