Quienes somos
Las actividades cooperativas de ciencia marina de la COI en el Caribe y regiones adyacentes han existido durante más de treinta años. Durante este período, tres etapas distintas han marcado la evolución de las Ciencias del Mar en la región. CICAR - 1968: El primer esfuerzo regional en ciencias marinas en el Caribe fueron las Investigaciones Cooperativas del Caribe y Regiones Adyacentes (CICAR) coordinadas por la COI y basadas en la Expedición Internacional del Océano Índico. Su objetivo era la comprensión de los océanos y los procesos relacionados en la región del Gran Caribe. Asociación IOCARIBE, 1975: Los Estados Miembros reconocieron los beneficios de CICAR y expresaron su interés en crear una organización sucesora.

Co-designing the science for the Ocean Decade
The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) will harness and stimulate innovative ocean research, from co-design to co-delivery, and strengthen the multi-stakeholder cooperation needed to develop the science we need for the ocean we want.
The Decade will provide a framework for collaborative and participative ocean research, and support better integration of diverse knowledge systems from different science disciplines and ocean communities.
