Coastal Inundation Forecasting Initiative

The Coastal Inundation Forecasting Initiative (CIFI) is a multi-hazard warning system that promotes an integrated approach in the enhancement and delivery of early warnings, no matter what the causes for coastal inundations are, in line with the concept of impact-based forecasting and the UN Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

This Initiative is built on the experiences and development of a series of IOC, IOCARIBE and UN and International partners. In particular, the WMO led Coastal Inundation Forecasting Demonstration Project – Caribbean CIFDP-C (Hispaniola Island – Dominican Republic and Haiti)  that was  completed in November 2018.
