Scientists Propose Method to Assess Global Ocean Health

In a ‘Global Change Biology’ paper, a group of scientists propose using “essential ocean variables” as part of a sustained Global Ocean Observing System. The authors argue such a method can provide information on global changes in marine ecosystems and resources in response to internationally agreed needs, including data needed to monitor progress towards the SDGs, CBD Aichi Targets and the UNFCCC.
