IOCARIBE is Advancing Marine Spatial Planning in the Caribbean

IOCARIBE is proud to have Alejandro Rojas, consultant supporting MSP coordination, presenting at the 78th Annual Meeting of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute in Cartagena, Colombia. His poster session showcased our regional MSP efforts and highlighted key recommendations of the SC-IOCARIBE-XVIII from Member States and organizations to strengthen training, data, and increase in MSP efforts in the region.

A cornerstone of this work is the UNDP/GEF/UNOPS ProCaribe+ Project, which promotes ocean protection, resilience, and blue economic growth. Through a UN-to-UN agreement between UNESCO and UNOPS, IOCARIBE is leading MSP development in Colombia and the Dominican Republic; and will be providing regional capacity building trainings on MSP for 2026.

To scale up impact, IOCARIBE has established a Marine Spatial Planning Task Team under our Capacity Development Working Group. The MSP-TT will foster collaboration, share best practices, and support implementation of the ProCaribe+ Project. We look forward to working with all 32 Member States of IOCARIBE and regional partners to advance ocean governance in the Wider Caribbean Region.
