Adapting coastal cities and territories to sea level rise in the Caribbean

Resumen

The Sea’ties initiative of the Ocean & Climate Platform is organising a workshop on "Adapting coastal cities and territories to sea level rise in the Caribbean" from October 23 to 25, 2024, hosted by the city of Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe, in partnership with the French Office for Biodiversity, the Fondation de France, and Coastal Quest and with the support of the Government of Monaco.

The workshop aims to address the challenges and opportunities for adapting coastal cities and territories to rising sea levels in the Caribbean region. It will gather elected officials, city planners, researchers, civil society representatives, and private sector stakeholders from across the region to share their experiences and needs. Our goal is to strengthen the capacities and cooperation among coastal territories, creating a pivotal moment for regional mobilisation ahead of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) and the launch of the Coastal Cities and Regions Coalition. The workshop’s conclusions will contribute to a regional Sea’ties report and inform the international and national advocacy efforts of the Ocean & Climate Platform, particularly within the frameworks of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
