Grenada will lead efforts to combat the sargassum seaweed problem in the Caribbean by hosting a new regional Secretariat and information hub. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell announced that the Secretariat will focus on policy development, research sharing, and sustainable management strategies. Sargassum has affected the region since 2011, disrupting beaches, harming marine life, and threatening tourism and fisheries. Grenada aims to collaborate with other Caribbean nations to address the issue and develop successful solutions.
