Résumé

This event will serve as the official launch of the IOCARIBE Task Team on Deep-Sea Research and the BBNJ Agreement, conceived as a regional platform to strengthen knowledge exchange, identify common priorities, promote collaboration among experts and institutions, and support Member States in developing scientific and technical capacities related to deep-sea environments.

The meeting will provide IOCARIBE Member States with an opportunity to learn more about ongoing regional deep-sea research initiatives, engage with deep-sea scientists and partner organizations, and advance regional preparedness for the implementation of the BBNJ Agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction.

The agenda will include presentations on IOCARIBE priorities, the BBNJ Agreement, the Calypso Project, the Schmidt deep-sea research cruise in Trinidad and Tobago, RevOcean, and a question-and-answer session.
