Medium-Term Strategic Science Plan, 2023–2029

The Strategic Science Plan (SSP) developed by IOCARIBE aims to strengthen the role of science in the region by promoting greater geopolitical and economic diversity in the use of ocean science. It focuses on understanding management priorities, advancing technology and data transfer, fostering capacity development, and enhancing ocean literacy.

The plan emphasizes the inclusion of early-career professionals, women, local communities, and indigenous knowledge holders in ocean initiatives. It urges Member States to implement measures to mitigate losses from extreme weather events and ocean-related hazards, develop scientific knowledge to support the production of sustainable goods and services, uphold commitments to ocean health, and guide policy-making by addressing scientific uncertainties, particularly those related to climate change.
