CLME’s Information Management System IMS is on line!

The CLME “Caribbean Large Marine Ecosystem” project, funded by GEF and implemented jointly by UNDP and UNESCO IOC with UNOPS as executing agency, aims at strengthening the management of the shared living marine resources of the Wider Caribbean. Within the framework CLME, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission IOC of UNESCO through its regional office for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions, IOCARIBE, assumed the responsibility to develop and implement the project’s component on data and information: IMS/REMP.

The IMS (Information Management System) and REMP (Regional Environmental Monitoring Programme) are two complementary elements, aimed at providing up to date, complete and reliable data and information on ecosystems, environment and related issues, for decision making and governance. While the IMS system provides the users with links (mostly URL’s) to relevant data and information, the REMP activity ensures the provision of updated data and information to the IMS. Both elements have been under development since April 2012.

We are happy and proud to announce that a beta- version of the IMS now is on line at the following URL:

http://clmeims.gcfi.org/

You are kindly invited to visit the site, register yourself as an IMS user and explore the possibilities of the IMS portal.

Note that in order to present the results of the IMS/REMP development to the CLME community, UNESCO IOC is organizing the “IMS/REMP Promotion and Awareness Workshop,” to be held in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. 29 -31 January 2013 (*new updated dates)

During the workshop, the IMS/REMP mechanism will be presented in detail, and the participants will receive a training in the use of IMS. Furthermore, the participants will have ample opportunity to work on line with the beta version of IMS. The intention is to obtain feedback from users, which can be used to improve the performance of the IMS. The workshop will also include a number of presentations on issues related to the management of data and information on ecosystems and environment, in an effort to strengthen and harmonize data and information mechanisms in the countries and at regional level.

Those interested in IMS/REMP and the above mentioned workshop, please contact the IOCARIBE Secretariat:
