Walter Munk One Hundred Years Anniversary

Walter Munk, scientist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego, has been called the world’s greatest living oceanographer.

The main goal of IOC is to strengthen ocean science and enhance its service for humanity and the ocean itself. It is highly unlikely that anyone else from living oceanographers of the world has contributed more to the IOC raison d’être than have Walter Munk, both in terms of making fundamental discoveries in oceanography and in terms of turning these discoveries into practical applications of direct benefit for people.
